Membership in the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) is limited to any sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or other business entity engaged on a for-profit basis in the operation of one more more motion picture exhibition facilities. The facility must also be open for at least 30 days before qualifying for membership status, although some exceptions may be allowed by the NATO Membership Committee on a case-by-case basis.
Non-profit, 501(c)3, 501(c)6 and government/military organizations are not eligible for NATO membership.
The purpose of these membership criteria is to comply with the objectives of the association, which include, but are not limited to: (1) promoting the general welfare of motion picture exhibitors; (2) representing the interests of the industry before executive, legislative and judicial bodies; and (3) gathering and disseminating such information as may be procompetitive and helpful to the members and associated organizations.
