Boxoffice To Become NATO’s Official Magazine; Goodbye From In Focus!
by John Fithian
NATO President

By memorandum (see below) dated Nov. 29, 2006, and press release (also below) dated Nov. 30, 2006, we announced an important transition for NATO. With this issue of In Focus, NATO ends its long and productive history of magazine production.

We are pleased that Boxoffice magazine will continue the tradition by serving our members and subscribers with comprehensive coverage of this wonderful industry. And we will provide content for Boxoffice on a monthly basis to keep our members and industry colleagues informed. We will also be able to redirect resources to other important NATO priorities. But the transition is bittersweet on a personal level. Our editor-in-chief, Jim Kozak, has been with NATO for 18 years. Mary dela Cruz, our associate editor, has been with us for over 12 years. These two talented and dedicated individuals have led NATO’s publications with grace and commitment. Jim and Mary have played a substantial role in the information and entertainment we have provided to our members and the industry at large. On behalf of the NATO executive staff and membership, I thank them for their service, and congratulate them on a job well done.

John

Re: Boxoffice Magazine to become NATO’s Official Magazine

As the attached press release indicates, Boxoffice Magazine has entered an agreement with NATO to become the official magazine of our organization. NATO will cease publication of In Focus Magazine in January 2007. Boxoffice Magazine will begin to incorporate NATO content, including my monthly column, with its February 2007 edition.

Under new ownership and with a new format, Boxoffice has undertaken a strategic expansion during 2006. We are confident that the publication will continue its comprehensive coverage of our industry. At the same time, the agreement with Boxoffice permits NATO to focus additional resources on other important member services as we represent the exhibition industry during a busy period of challenges and opportunities.

Under our agreement, Boxoffice will provide to all current and future NATO members in good standing free subscriptions to Boxoffice for as long as they remain NATO members in good standing. The agreement also provides that all non-NATO members who have subscribed to In Focus will receive a free subscription to Boxoffice for the duration of such subscribers’ term of subscription to In Focus.

In Focus has been published by NATO since January 2001 under the capable leadership of Jim Kozak, the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief. Jim has been ably assisted by Associate Editors Mary dela Cruz and Patrick Corcoran, and various different writers and support staff. For many years prior to that, Jim led the NATO communications efforts through such publications as NATO News, NATO News & Views, and other titles. We are deeply grateful for the service Jim and his team have provided to the industry.

We trust that you have been entertained and edified by In Focus, and that you will continue to be well-served by your subscription to Boxoffice.

Boxoffice Magazine And
The National Association of Theatre Owners Ink Pact

Hollywood/Washington, D.C. (November 30, 2006) (For Immediate Release)

Boxoffice Magazine, the authoritative voice of The Business of Movies™ since 1920, announced that it has entered into an agreement to become the official magazine of NATO, the National Association of Theatre Owners.

Boxoffice will incorporate exclusive NATO content within each issue beginning with the February 2007 issue. NATO’s magazine, In Focus, will cease publication.

“This new relationship with Boxoffice Magazine gives NATO members the benefit of Boxoffice Magazine’s comprehensive coverage of the industry, and permits us to concentrate on other members services, confident that Boxoffice will keep our members well informed in this competitive industry,” said John Fithian, president and CEO of NATO.

“We are gratified by NATO’s vote of confidence,” said Peter Cane, president of Boxoffice Media LP, which acquired Boxoffice Magazine and boxoffice.com earlier this year. “We made a major commitment to the film and the exhibition industry when we began our strategic expansion of Boxoffice during 2006, and our new relationship with NATO validates that commitment.”

The National Association of Theatre Owners is the largest exhibition trade organization in the world, representing more than 29,000 movie screens in all 50 states, and additional cinemas in more than 40 countries worldwide. NATO’s membership includes the largest cinema chains in the world as well as hundreds of independent theatre owners.

For more than 85 years, Boxoffice Magazine has been an icon in the Hollywood film and distribution industry and is the recognized authority on the business of motion pictures exhibition, production and distribution. In 2006, Boxoffice Media, LP purchased the company and began a planned multi-year growth strategy that will expand the scope and reach of Boxoffice into trade events, film festivals and other industry initiatives.
