William L. Adamany Sr., owner and president of AGT Enterprises, founded his circuit in 1982 with the acquisition of Showboat Cinemas. Prairie du Chien-based AGT currently operates 56 screens at seven Wisconsin sites. Adamany also currently serves as the treasurer of NATO of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan.

What about you would most surprise the majority of your fellow exhibitors?
I enjoy cooking.

What would you wish for if a djinn offered to grant one wish (assuming you couldn’t wish for more wishes)?
Peace throughout the Earth.

What would you be if you weren’t a cinema operator?
I’d be involved in some other type of business.

Who is your favorite filmmaker and why?
Steven Spielberg, because of the many great movies he has made.

Which TV show do you hate to miss?
“The Practice.”

What’s your favorite book?
There are too many good books to choose one favorite.

What kind of lunchbox did you have as a kid?
No lunchbox, I walked home for lunch every day.

What’s your favorite movie theatre in which you and/or your partners have absolutely no investment?
Muvico in Boca Raton, Fla.

Which sacred cow would you most like to barbeque?
Film terms.

What’s the best thing about running a cinema company?
Being in business with one of my sons and providing a great moviegoing experience for our patrons.

What’s the worst?
Film terms.

What’s the best thing about living in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin is a beautiful state and a great place to raise a family.

What’s your most admirable quality?
Ability to work with a variety of people and personalities.

What’s your least admirable quality?
Impatience.

Whom do you most admire and why?
My parents, because of the values they taught me.

What drives you?
Seeing results and accomplishments.

What is your single greatest accomplishment?
My family.

What do you wish someone had told you earlier?
I don’t know, I probably wouldn’t have listened to it anyway.

What was the single best piece of advice you ever got?
Always treat people as you would want to be treated.

How do you define success?
Being happy in whatever you choose to do.

How would you like to be remembered?
That I was always fair and treated people with respect.

If your personal philosophy could be summed up on a bumper sticker, what would it say?
Work to live, don’t live to work.
