ORLANDO, Fla. – William Jenkins Stembler, CEO of Georgia Theatre Co. (GTC), was honored Oct. 27 with the Show “E” Award at this year’s ShowEast convention in Orlando, Fla. The award, presented at the Coca-Cola Final Night Banquet, is bestowed annually in recognition of contributions to the exhibition industry.

Stembler’s career with the original GTC began in 1973, and he remained with the company when United Artists (now a component of Regal Entertainment Group) bought it in 1986. He launched the current incarnation of GTC in 1991, and the circuit, based on St. Simons Island, Ga., now operates 273 screens at 29 sites in Georgia, Virginia and South Carolina.

A 3rd-generation exhibitor, Stembler traces his family’s presence in the industry back to 1924, when maternal grandfather William K. Jenkins launched the Palace Theatre in the Atlanta suburb of Little Five Points.
A former enforcement attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Stembler holds a law degree from the University of Georgia Law School.

He has served NATO in numerous capacities over the past two decades, notably as the association’s chairman from 1996 to 1998.
