Inside Marcus Chain

MILWAUKEE – Marcus Theatres Corp. announced March 22 the promotions of Jeff Tomachek to vice president of finance, planning and development, and Katie Falvey to director of real estate. Both positions are newly created.

The company also announced the hiring of Matt Nowicki as manager of financial planning and analysis.

Tomachek joined Marcus Theatres in 1998 as controller, then became vice president of financial analysis and strategic planning at the Marcus Corp.’s limited-service lodging division. Before joining Marcus he spent 12 years in accounting and finance positions with Golden Books Publishing.

Falvey joined the Marcus Corp. in 1997 as director of marketing and lease administration and most recently served as Marcus Corp. director of real estate. She will now be primarily responsible for locating new cinema sites.

Nowicki has held accounting and finance positions at M&I Bank, Ernst & Young LLP and Robert W. Baird & Co.

“The creation of Jeff and Katie’s new positions is a significant step in accelerating the growth of Marcus Theatres,” stated circuit president Bruce J. Olsen. “With our increased focus on new theatre sites and potential acquisitions, the expertise of these professionals, along with three other key team members, positions us to pursue an increasing number of opportunities to expand our business.”

Milwaukee-based Marcus is the 9th-largest theatre circuit in the United States, operating 503 screens at 45 sites in four states.

14-Plex Gets Imax

FITCHBURG, Wis. – Star Cinema/AGT Enterprises Inc. announced March 24 an agreement to install an Imax system at its 14-plex in Fitchburg, Wis.

Upon completion, expected this autumn, the Imax screen will be the second of its kind in Wisconsin.

“We are excited about the opportunity to open the first multiplex-based Imax theatre in the state of Wisconsin,” stated circuit co-owner Bill Adamany Jr. “With an Imax theatre, we’ll be able to exhibit Hollywood blockbusters in Imax’s immersive format on weekends and at night, and supplement our daytime programming schedule with Imax’s educational and entertaining documentary-style films – differentiating our multiplex from all others in the region. We look forward to offering this unique mix to moviegoers in the Madison area.”

The Prairie du Chien, Wis.-based chain currently operates 77 screens in two states.
