Projection For Facility Due 2007
MJR 14 Planned For Detroit Area
CLINTON
TOWNSHIP, Mich. – MJR Theatres announced Oct. 18
that it is planning a late 2007 opening for a new 14-plex
in Clinton Township, Mich., approximately 20 miles north
of Detroit.
The proposed 55,749-square-foot site,
a component of the new Partridge Creek Fashion Park lifestyle
center,
will feature stadium-style seating, digital sound, Internet
ticketing and a lobby projection booth showing coming
attractions. Additionally, at least four of the auditoria
will be outfitted with Hollywood-compliant “big-d” digital
projection systems, one of which will have the added
capability of projecting digital 3D films.
“I am excited about MJR coming to
Partridge Creek Fashion Park,” stated Michael Mihalich, owner of MJR Theatres. “The
complex will be the ultimate entertainment venue in an
upscale retail environment.”
MJR Theatres, based in Oak Park, Mich.,
currently operates 116 screens at seven sites.

Carmike Calls
Staffing Shifts
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Carmike Cinemas announced a flurry
of new hires and internal promotions in early October.
Anthony Rhead as been promoted to senior vice president
of entertainment and Larry Collins moved up to vice president
of film. Meanwhile, Lee Champion was
hired as senior vice president – general counsel and secretary, while
Jim Zehr joined as director of real estate and development.
Rhead, a Carmike employee since June 1981, previously
held the position of senior vice president of film and
secretary. Before joining the circuit, Rhead
was a longtime employee of Plitt Theatres. In his new position, he will be
working on the development of Carmike’s digital cinema program.
Collins, who joined Carmike in 1994 after working for
Cinema World and Cinemette Theatres in Pittsburgh, was
previously Carmike’s film buyer for the Northeast
and Midwest regions.
Champion rejoins Carmike, reassuming the positions
he held at the circuit previously. He exited exhibition
for a time to work as a partner in a local
law firm.
Zehr comes to Carmike from GKC Theatres, the Illinois-based
circuit acquired by Carmike earlier this year. In his
new role Zehr will handle new project
development, lease negotiation, and real estate sales and acquisitions.
Columbus, Ga.-based Carmike is the world’s 3rd-largest cinema
chain, operating 2,495 screens at 309 sites in 37 states. .
